After terrible returns in July and August 2013, Japan recovered slightly in September. Japan is the largest component of the EAFE Index comprising 21.26%.
Historically September has one of the worst averages, but this year it provided very good returns.
Emerging markets are also rebounding some this month. Even with these gains in September, iShares MSCI Emerging Markets (EEM) is still down -4.86% year to date having dropped 10% during the second quarter.
